India, Bangalore: The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) is looking to place at least 1,000 power transformers to private apartment complexes to free the footpaths in the city.

The company asked permission from Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) to shift the transformers to the apartment complexes, reports The Hindu.

Bescom’s request comes as part of the task to remove a staggering 9,000 transformers from the city’s footpaths, after the High Court of Karnataka directed the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and Bescom earlier this year to remove the transformers.

Currently, 19 transformers coming under Tender SURE (Specifications for Urban Road Execution) project will be removed by the end of this month, according to Bescom Managing Director Pankaj Kumar Pandey.
