Chile: CDEC-SING, the operator of Chile’s northern grid, published a study on the system to ensure the grid’s safe operation and prevent outages.

The operator recommended the replacement of current transformers and power switches that are overburdened when the system suffers short circuits and failures, reports BN Americas.

CDEC-SING has proposed $258 million in expansion works which are outlined in a proposal that includes possible increase of regional integration with neighbours Argentina and Peru as well as increased demand from the Collahuasi mine, the world’s largest copper operation.
