The transformer located in Plaza Ayuntamiento (the Town Hall Square) in Valencia, Spain is to be upgraded due to the installation of the ice rink that would normally require power from mobile transformers directly on the site.

The retailer business association has a deadline by tomorrow to close a deal that will allow the installation of the ice skating rink for the first time in Plaza Ayuntamiento. The two priorities are the choice of the appropriate transformer and finding the sponsorship to fund the installation.

The first question raises two alternatives as indicated by a source familiar with the installation process yesterday. The choices are to upgrade the transformer located in the Plaza itself or rent several mobile transformers with diesel engines.

The city has imposed several requirements to allow the transformer installation and among them is to avoid the usage of diesel engines, which would contribute to the nuisance increase in the Plaza. Since the ice rink track is approximately 670 square metres in size, the only viable option now is to upgrade the underground power transformer located near the fountain.

The plan is to open the rink to the public on the 12th December, so if the deal is not closed by next Monday, it is going to be very difficult to ensure the opening of the ice rink this Christmas. Due to such short notice to upgrade the transformer and install the ice rink, the opening is likely to be postponed for Christmas 2014.
