The Philippines, Manila: The National Grid Corp of the Philippines (NGCP) has begun operating a new transformer and circuit breaker at a substation in Central Luzon.

The company has installed the third 100 MVA transformer and power circuit breaker at the Concepcion substation in Tarlac province to address higher demand for electricity in the area.

This substation now has a rated capacity of 300 MVA, allowing it to accommodate the average peak load of 60 to 70 MW. The additional transformer will avert overloading of the existing transformers and accommodate the expected load growth in Luzon. The project is part of the Luzon Substation Expansion Project 2, reports Inter Aksyon.

“Our expansion projects prepare the transmission system to accommodate the expected load increase. NGCP is constantly looking for ways to upgrade facilities to improve the reliability of power transmitted to the electric cooperatives.” said NGCP president and chief executive officer Henry Sy Jr.
