Belgian Tihange NPP’s reactor closes after transformer bursts into flames

Belgium, Liège: Tihange Nuclear Power Station’s third reactor was shut down automatically after one of the power transformers had exploded.

The transformer explosion caused fire which was extinguished but it is not clear how long the reactor will be closed, reports Press TV.

Belgium has two nuclear power stations, one in Doel in the north and Tihange in the south. Tihange 3 is now the fourth Belgian nuclear reactor to go out of service.
