The National Police of Colombia will join with the Edeq (Energy Company of Quindio) personnel in attempt to shed light on to the cause of an explosion that occurred inside the Quimbaya substation.

As soon as the incident occurred, there was a rumour of an attack because it happened at about 3:00 a.m. and the local area lost power supply for an hour. This theory was soon rejected.

However, the substation is located approximately 300 m from the nearest town and a loud explosion was heard on the road to Filandia and in the nearby areas.

The Edeq General Manager Mario Fernando Ramirez, an engineer, confirmed that the incident is under investigation by the relevant authorities and that a result of the investigation will be known soon.

He said that the damage from the explosion caused the transformer failure  and power cuts to the urban and rural areas.

“Thanks to the timely repairs, power was supplied through the other substations,” he said.

He added that the damaged transformer will soon be put back into operation and commented that the police will have the final say on the cause of the incident.
