USA, California: Nearly 20,000 homes and businesses in San Bernardino and Highland were left without power after a blaze at the Southern California Edison substation.

“It was an explosion in one of the transformers. It caused a widespread power outage primarily to the south end of San Bernardino,” said San Bernardino City Fire Chief Tom Hannemann.

Although no injuries were reported, the blackout left people stuck in elevators, and the loss of electrical power forced some nursing homes to transfer patients who rely on medical devices.
