The ice rink will probably be launched on the 12th or the 13th  according to Julia Martinez, Managing Director of the Historic Centre Merchants Association and the promoter of the initiative. The agreement was signed with Iberdrola in order to launch the fleeting attraction.

The only obstacle to the ice rink launch is economic. The cost of transformer installation is $18,000 with an initial payment of $6,000, plus five $2,400 installments. The electicity bill, covering the 12th December 2013 to 12th January 2014 period, is expected to range between $8,000 and 12,000.

Rita Barbera, the mayor of Valencia personally asked the Iberdrola officials to be more flexible when it comes to the installation of the rink.

She acknowledged that power supply is “a serious problem”.

A trade, however, remains to be negotiated with Elenor to install the connection running from the transformers area to the rink, which will cost $12,000.

“They should be aware that it is an investment for the city,” Martinez encouraged them. She explained that out of $18,000, only $12,000 have to be paid this year and next Christmas, only electric bills will have to be taken care of. This will make the ice rink launch profitable.

The rink should not be seen as a profit generator but as an attraction. The prices will be around $8 for half an hour, but discounts will be offered to buyers in partner establishments.
