Exploded transformer causes fire in a tunnel under construction
Austria, Styria: Austrian railways has announced that a fire broke out inside a railway tunnel under construction in the province of Styria in southern Austria.
Austria, Styria: Austrian railways has announced that a fire broke out inside the Koralmbahn railway tunnel, which is under construction in the province of Styria in southern Austria.
The fire was started by a power transformer which burst into flames that spread to the tunnel boring machine, reports 20 minutes.
The incident occurred 14 kilometres from the point of entry into the Koralmbahn tunnel, Deutschlandsberg, which is still under construction.
The Koralmbahn tunnel, whose inauguration is scheduled for 2023, should improve the rail connection between Austria and northern Italy.
