USA, Washington DC: After a hearing on the U.S Department of Energy (DOE) 2016 budget request, the President’s Budget proposed an overall 9.2 percent funding increase for energy efficiency and renewable technologies.

DOE has requested the highest percentage-based increase to fund the Electricity Deliverability and Energy Reliability programme, which includes implementation of a new Transformer Resilience and Advanced Components programme, reports Breaking Energy.

The programme worth $10 million addresses unique challenges to grid components and expands the study of geomagnetic disturbance impacts on power transformers.
