A manhole explosion at the 7th Street SW and Jefferson Avenue was caused when melting snow and road salt runoff made its way underground and caused a fuse to blow on a transformer, D.C. Fire officials said.
The second outage was the manhole incident that was due to the blown fuse box on a transformer. The explosion caused a loud boom-like sound causing an outage that impacted 2,600 customers and affected parts of the National Mall.
The utility was hoping to restore power to everyone by late Sunday night, but it appears early Monday that some customers are still in the dark.
