India, Gujarat: Alstom T&D India has inaugurated the first “Made in India” 800 kV HVDC converter transformer from its power transformer manufacturing facility at Vadodara, in the state of Gujarat.

The converter transformer is part of PowerGrid’s 3,000 MW, 800 kV Champa-Kurukshetra UHVDC Phase 1 link that connects the power station of Central India near Champa to the demand centre, 1,365 km away in Northern India at Kurukshetra, states Alstom in press release.

HVDC is increasingly the preferred choice for utilities to ensure efficient, reliable bulk power transmission over long distances.

Alstom T&D India also announced plans to set up one more plant to meet the need for High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) converter transformers, reports The Economic Times.
