USA, Ohio: FirstEnergy is building a $1.2 million substation in Brunswick, Ohio, that will support future growth and reduce outages, the company says.

The project at 1515 Substation Road includes installation of a large power transformer, circuit breakers and animal deterrents, and is planned to go online this summer.

“The substation will be connected to the existing electric system in the Medina County area and is designed to enhance service reliability and help ensure the electric system can handle future load growth in the area,” FirstEnergy spokesman said, according to Cleveland.com.

The substation will have animal deterrent features which include rubber-like protective material covering certain parts of the equipment.

The Brunswick project is part of FirstEnergy’s $383 million investment this year to strengthen and build capacity for more than 1 million customers in Ohio Edison’s service area.
