GRIDCON transformer certified as the world’s first voltage regulated distribution transformer

Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen (MR) received the world's first product certificate for a voltage regulated distribution transformer. The certificate acknowledges that its GRIDCON transformer complies fully with the requirements in reference guidelines Z 417 of the FGH certification body. The product characteristics required in the guideline guarantee reliable, safe, and, most importantly, grid-compliant operation of voltage regulated distribution transformers.

Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen (MR) received the world’s first product certificate for a voltage regulated distribution transformer.

GRIDCON  transformer is the first product of its kind to comply with the designated characteristics on the basis of measurements by an independent body. The company received the certificate on the 4th December during the FNN grid technology congress in Nuremberg, Germany.

FGH has designed its own certification process for voltage regulated distribution transformers with reference guideline Z 417 defining the first ever binding process for assessing the conformity of voltage regulated distribution transformer impacts on the voltage quality in the distribution grid.

The assessment involves the results of type tests for the transformer, tap changer, and voltage regulator. The requirements of operational reliability, grid compatibility, and specific regulation functions for this new component in the distribution grid when connected in are particularly assessed.

FGH has its own advanced type tests for voltage regulated distribution transformers for these additional requirements which record them in a test specification. This stipulates that when the voltage regulated distribution transformer is operated independently, among other things, its immunity to external voltage fluctuations is tested on the basis of EMC standard tests.

The successful completion of the certification process confirms that the GRIDCON  transformer satisfies all the requirements laid down in Z 417. This is an important milestone for MR which guarantees that the voltage regulated distribution transformer is reliable, safe, and grid-compliant.
