USA, Alabama: The city of Athens and Athens Utilities have begun a $12 million electric system expansion project that includes construction of new substations and continued line enhancements.

Over the next several years Athens Utilities will build three new 50 MW substations with power transformers and associated electrical equipment, including Limestone Creek substation, Buck Island substation and Blackburn substation, reports The News Courier.

The improvements will allow Athens Utilities to redistribute the load on existing substations, ensuring more reliable service in the areas that are currently at capacity.
