Manitoba Hydro to replace Winnipeg’s aging substations

The Adelaide Street substation project includes design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of three 30 MVA power transformers, we well as 66 kV gas-insulated switchgear, and 12-kilovolt metal-clad switchgear, reports Daily Commercial News.
This project is part of Manitoba Hydro’s plan to upgrade and replace Winnipeg’s aging substations and other equipment with newer, efficient power delivery systems.
According to Brent Reed, vice-president, customer service and distribution for Manitoba Hydro, out of the 97 stations in the city of Winnipeg, 37 are operating beyond their technical limitations and eight of them are more than 60 years old.
