South Koreans win order to build 4 combined cycle power plants in Algeria

South Korean groups have won the order to construct six combined cycle power plants for nearly $ 6 billion. Of six stations, four will be reconstructed by Hyundai Daewoo and Samsung.

South Korean groups have won the order to construct six combined cycle power plants for nearly $ 6 billion. Of six stations, four will be reconstructed by Hyundai Daewoo and Samsung.

The Society for Production of Electricity, SPE , a subsidiary of the Sonelgaz Group awarded the contracts according to the Group announcement following the public financial bidding on the 25th July 2013.

The results of the bidding show a predominance of South Korean groups. Samsung C & T will construct  two plants, one in Naama and the other in Mostaganem.  Hyundai Engineering Co. , Ltd/Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd/Daewoo International Co. will construct the  Belara station in the Jijel Province and the one in Oumache in the Biskra Province. However, the construction of the Djelfa station was assigned to Duro Felguera and the Kais Khenchela one to GS/Daelim.

The projects are worth over $ 4.04 billion according to the EPC (engineering , procurement and construction) contracts but the total cost is more than $ 5.96 billion as stated by Sonelgaz. 

The winning bidders have also proposed Transmex to transport all heavy equipment such as turbines, generators and transformers that weigh between 250 and 300 tonnes.

The Sonelgaz Group subsidiaries will participate in the construction of the plants and Etterkib will be responsible for the equipment installation.
