Chandigarh upgrading its ageing electricity infrastructure

India, Chandigarh: Chandigarh Administration is planning to upgrade its ageing electricity infrastructure and improve power supply in the city with proposed projects worth around $23 million to be implemented in a period of three years.

 


India, Chandigarh: Chandigarh Administration is planning to upgrade its ageing electricity infrastructure and improve power supply in the city with proposed projects worth around $23 million to be implemented in a period of three years.

To meet the rising load demand in the southern sectors of the city, the authorities have proposed to provide new power transformers at 66 kV substation in Sector 47, reports The Indian Express.

There is also a plan to upgrade the existing 33 kV grid substation to 66 kV by providing high-end 30 MVA, 661 kV power transformer along with associated transmission line in Sector 34.

At Sarangpur, the authorities have proposed two 20 MVA 66/11 kV grid substations in the institutional area of Sarangpur.

To strengthen the distribution system, there is a plan to install 315 kVA distribution transformers in the vicinity of the city at different locations specifically at load centres.

According to the official records, at present, there is one 220 kV substation, 13 66 kV substations and five 33 kV substation in the city. Each substation has a life span of 25 years and around six 66 kV substations have completed the life span.
