A transformer repairing workshop will be set up in the Gumla district, India as the emergency transformer repairs otherwise have to be carried out in the Ranchi district workshop.

The state power department’s decision to set up the transformer repairing workshop will also benefit the neighbouring Simdega and Lohardaga districts.

More than 125 transformers, of 10, 16 and 25 KVA, are non-functional due to overloading, according to Satendra Kumar, executive engineer of the electricity department. “The transformers were intended for single-phase power lines but when connected to double or triple phase line, they get burnt,“ he added.

Meanwhile, the power department district unit has initiated a consumer incentive campaign by waiving the interest on the balances for customers who have not paid their debts for the last year. But power supply to customers with Rs 5,000 arrears will be stopped, he added.
