Transformer fire breaks out in Brandon

Last night, a fire broke out at Tampa Electric Co. substation in Brandon, Florida, USA.

Last night, a fire broke out at Tampa Electric Co. substation in Brandon, Florida, USA.

According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, the fire broke out at the substation located at 9920 E Adamo Drive about 8:30 p.m..

Tampa Electric crews shut down the operation of the station while the fire burned itself out.

The substation is used to decrease voltage through transformers which are cooled with mineral oil. Fire crews reported that the mineral oil was fueling the fire and they would have to remain at the scene and allow it to burn off which could take up to 8 hours.

Power outages were reported throughout the area, but have since been rerouted.

Officials said no one has been injured.
