EPEN announced the addition of two new transformers to the Alto Valle power station in order to minimise the risks of failure of electricity supply to Neuquén and Cipolletti, Argentina.

Two 30 MVA power transformers will replace the two existing ones which have now reached the end of their service life. The new transformers will provide greater reliability and provision of the service, and minimise the likelihood of transformer failure at the station.

The original transformers, which have been maintained constantly since 1993, are 40 years old and will be replaced at the cost  of $ 1.7 million. One of the new transformers has already been transported to the site and the other one is expected to arrive within the next few days.

The Gran Neuquén station will supply the cities while the new transformers are being installed and no outages are expected during down time.
