43,000 in East Bay affected by outage after transformer explosion

USA, California: More than 43,000 people in Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, Richmond and San Pablo, California experienced a massive power outage after a power transformer at an El Cerrito substation exploded on Monday morning.

 


USA, California: More than 43,000 people in Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, Richmond and San Pablo, California experienced a massive power outage after a power transformer at an El Cerrito substation exploded on Monday morning.

The power went out across the region around shortly after a power transformer at a PG&E substation at Schmidt Lane and Cabrillo Street in El Cerrito blew up, sending smoke into the air, reports Barkeleyside.

The utility is investigating the incident and at the time cannot confirm if there was a connection between the explosion of a transformer in El Cerrito and the outage.

The power has been restored to all customers.
