Germany, Erlangen: Siemens has received a $147 million (€130 million) order from Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), for an HVDC (high-voltage direct-current) back-to-back link to connect the power supply networks of India and Bangladesh.

On a turnkey basis, Siemens will be responsible for engineering, installing and commissioning of the complete HVDC system for the customer, the manufacturer said in a statement.

Siemens has already installed block 1 of the Bheramara HVDC back-to-back station in 2013 and will now deliver a second block with all requisite electrical equipment, which will have a transmission capacity of another 500 MW.

The power link is scheduled to come on line in the second half of 2018.
