The Hannibal Board of Public Works, Hannibal, Missouri, USA, announced that a pair of electrical transformers, which were located at the former St. Elizabeth Hospital at 109 Virginia St, have been stolen.

Jared Stewart, electric line superintendent for the BPW, said that two transformers – a 500 kVA and a 750 kVA – have been taken but did not have electricity flowing through them at the time they were removed. The cost of replacing the transformers will be approximately $ 10,000 for the 500 and $ 15,000 for the 750 kVA one.

Apparently, BPW materials have been stolen before. According to Stewart, two months ago the thieves had broken in the cabinet door and stolen the copper from the inside.

Building Inspector Joey Burnham condemned the complex last week after discovering potential safety issues inside the building while accompanying the Fire Department during an investigation of smoke coming from the structure.
