Congo to receive $11M grant for two substations
Africa, Congo: The African Development Bank has approved an $11 million grant to the Democratic Republic of Congo to support a regional project aimed at extending access to electricity within the country as well as to neighbouring Nile Equatorial Lakes countries in the short term.
Africa, Congo: The African Development Bank has approved an $11 million grant to the Democratic Republic of Congo to support a regional project aimed at extending access to electricity within the country as well as to neighbouring Nile Equatorial Lakes countries in the short term.
The project components in Congo include construction of a 95-km 220 kV Goma-Bukavu line and the Buhandahanda substation, with power transformers and associated electrical equipment; and construction of a 13-km 220 kV Goma-Gisenyi line and the Goma substation, reports EBR.
The project is part of the larger Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program (NELSAP), whose overall objective is to improve access to electricity within the Nile Basin Initiative countries through increased cross-border power trade.
The funds mobilized for the entire NELSAP project (covering Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya and Uganda) come at $223 million.
