The power utility construction in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region started on Monday. It is a transfer of electricity from China’s rich energy sources in the west to the energy demanding east.
The Shanghaimiao power transmission base in Erdos (Inner Mongolia), which supplies Shandong Province in east China with energy from coal-fired power generation, constitutes one sixth of the country’s coal resources.
This is the second national power transmission project carried out in Inner Mongolia after one in Xilingol in May 2015.
The capacity of the estimated 35 billion yuan (about 5 billion U.S. dollars) project is 10 GW. It will supply 55 billion kWh of power with 30 million tonnes of coal needed for the power production.
Nine power transmission bases and 12 major power channels will be built in China’s west-east power transmission program according to the national plan.
The total of 70 GW of capacity which is planned will cover the power demands of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta regions by 2020.
