Civil Defence douses transformer fire in SEWA substation

UAE, Dubai: On Monday around 7 in the morning a fire broke out in a transformer of the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) located in Al Majaz 2.

 

UAE, Dubai: On Monday around 7 in the morning a fire broke out in a transformer of the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA) located in Al Majaz 2.

Sharjah Civil Defense arrived at the site five minutes after the eruption. The fire was doused in less than an hour and further spreading was prevented.

The fire erupted in transformer 3, transformers 1 and 2 were not damaged. Power and water was cut off in the surrounding areas and the residents had to endure temperatures well over forty degrees. However, power was restored around noon.

Lt. Colonel Al Naqbi of the Sharjah Civil Defense said that the police will investigate the cause of fire.

There were no injuries reported.
