Venezuela, La Horqueta: A project undertaken jointly between Venezuela and China to repair power transformers is to strengthen the national grid, according to Diario El Periodiquito. The investment in the project is $ 70 million.

Due to the joint project, the ability to repair high voltage transformers at the Recovery Centre for Transformers and Reactors (CTRT) will triple, according to Henry Brito , Deputy Minister for the Development of Industry and Electrical Industry.

It is expected that the modernisation of the recovery centre located inside the transformer substation La Horqueta, Zamora, will be completed by December this year.

The project was undertaken as part of the agreement with China and aims to strengthen the national grid by increasing the ability to repair high-voltage transformers. “With this project we will perform an average of ten transformer repairs  a year,” Brito said.

Power transformers work to increase or decrease the voltage in the electrical circuit to reach homes and businesses. Their lifespan varies between 25 and 30 years so tripling repair capacity has an important effect on the national grid.
