Spain, Sarria: The transformer, weighing several tonnes, was found lying near the cement factory in Sarria, writes La Voz de Galicia. The power transformer was stolen yesterday but the thieves failed to transport it to its destination.

The police thinks that the thieves came to the factory last night and loaded the large transformer, weighing around three tonnes, on a truck using a crane. However, the thieves underestimated their load and lost it in the vicinity of the factory on the local road leading to Oural in Chorente.

The transformer  was dumped at the edge of the road where it spilled oil. The Sarria police is still unable to provide relevant information about the theft. At the time of the theft, the transformer was stored in a warehouse with the rest of the equipment as a spare. It is normally used to reduce the 6,000 V to 380 V in the factory.

The factory also has other transformers in different sizes and of substantially higher power directing a current to the cement mills and other parts of the factory.
