As part of the contract, ABB will supply traction transformers and other equipment such as converters, battery chargers, train control systems, and passenger information and entertainment equipment. The upgrade of the electrical systems will enable the trains to have a more reliable power supply system. The upgrade will be completed in 2019.

“This initiative will enable SJ to offer the most comfortable train journeys on the main inter-city lines in Sweden for a long time ahead,” says SJ’s CEO Mr Crister Frizson.

The first 20 six-car X2000 trains were ordered in 1986 from Asea, which merged with BBC, Switzerland to form ABB in 1988, who are now involved in Bombardier production.
