India, Srinagar: A senior leader of The Communist Party of India (CPI), Abdul Hamid Wani, stated transformers waiting to be repaired in the Kashmir Valley are directly causing power crisis and are a result of incompetence and insensitivity of the administration, writes Free Press Kashmir.

Mr Wani said that approximately 40 transformers in different areas are awaiting repair in the electric division Kulgam and some have been there since more than a month ago. He warned that nothing is being done about the power crisis despite the MLA Kulgam state secretary, Mohammad Yousuf Targami, authorising a fund for repairs of the damaged transformers and the installation of the new ones.

According to Mr Wani, the Party has organised protests and wrote to the district administration on many occasions but have not been successful. He said, “Only mere assurances are given which cannot address the gravity of the dismal power situation in the district,“ and criticised the government for not dealing with the power crisis and not creating a transformer safety stock.
