USA, Missouri, Sainte Genevieve County: Around 80 % of homes and businesses in Sainte Genevieve County lost power recently due to “catastrophic equipment failure”

Citizens Electric Cooperative reported that residents within the 10 km radius were without service, according to KFVS. Their personnel and firefighters found the coil from the transformer on the ground and on fire at the New Bourbon substation. It was concluded that it came from a potential transformer in the substation’s middle bus – the common circuit for the three transformers. The crews isolated the affected transformer and restored power to the bus.

Crews reported that further outages will not occur during the repairs. The public was advised to stay away from downed power lines and check if the emergency generators are wired properly before using them to prevent them from backfiring into power lines.
