Transformer fire at Corriganville leaves customers without power
USA, Maryland: Yesterday 1,861 people lost power in Corriganville due to a faulty power transformer which caught fire at the substation, writes Cumberland Times-News. During the repairs, the customers were supplied through transformers at Kelly Boulevard, LaVale Plaza and Frostburg.

USA, Maryland: Yesterday 1,861 people lost power in Corriganville due to a faulty power transformer which caught fire at the substation, writes Cumberland Times-News. During the repairs, the customers were supplied through transformers at Kelly Boulevard, LaVale Plaza and Frostburg.
FirstEnergy spokesman, Todd Meyers said that the faulty transformers could be fixed yesterday afternoon. “Crews will replace some parts Tuesday night and then test the transformer before making a final determination,” he said. A mobile transformer could be a possibility if necessary.
According to Meyers, it is unsurprising that the transformer malfunctioned and caught fire at 6 a.m. at Corriganville substation because at that time, majority of people get up and put their thermostats up, and workplaces put their heating up for the workers. He added that people should assist the repair work and turn their thermostats down to 20 degrees Celsius as this will lessen the load on the three substations which are currently supplying power to the affected areas.
