Siemens awarded a 150-MW wind power project in Canada

Siemens Canada has received an order from Samsung Renewable Energy, Inc. (Samsung) and Pattern Energy Group LP (Pattern Development) for the Grand Renewable Wind Project. Under the agreement, Siemens will supply, deliver and commission 67 units of its SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines to the Grand Renewable Energy Park, located in the County of Haldimand in southern Ontario which will consist of 100 MW of solar power and 150 MW of wind power. The agreement also includes a three-year service and maintenance agreement.

Siemens Canada has received an order from Samsung Renewable Energy, Inc. (Samsung) and Pattern Energy Group LP (Pattern Development) for the Grand Renewable Wind Project. Under the agreement, Siemens will supply, deliver and commission 67 units of its SWT-2.3-101 wind turbines to the Grand Renewable Energy Park, located in the County of Haldimand in southern Ontario which will consist of 100 MW of solar power and 150 MW of wind power. The agreement also includes a three-year service and maintenance agreement.

The wind turbine blades for the project will be manufactured at the Siemens facility in Tillsonburg, Ontario, and towers and steel for the turbines will be sourced from local suppliers. The nacelles will be supplied by the Company’s nacelle assembly plant in Hutchinson, Kansas, USA. Commercial operation at the Grand Renewable Energy Park is expected to begin by autumn next year.

The Grand Renewable Wind Project, for which Siemens has been selected to supply and commission wind turbines, is the second Samsung and Pattern Development project in Ontario under the Green Energy Investment Agreement.

In fiscal 2012, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about $33 billion. In the same period, Siemens products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by more than 330 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of Berlin, Delhi, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo.
