Russia, St. Petersburg: Lenenergo (Rossetti Group) has launched the first phase of a large-scale reconstruction of the 35/6 kV substation Krasnyy treugol’nik on Obvodny Canal which will involve power transformer replacement.

Upgrade one of the oldest cities of power facilities will significantly increase the reliability of power supply to Admiralteysky District and allow new consumers to connect.

The substation was built in 1933 and is located in the historical city centre. As new consumers cannot connect, Lenenergo decided to reconstruct the substation and upgrade it from 35 kV to 110 kV.

The first phase of the reconstruction will cost 204 million rubles ($ 5.9 million) and is planned for April 2014. A temporary 40 MVA transformer will be installed as well as the new 110 kV switchgear and relay protection panel.

By 2015, Lenenergo plans to replace five outdated power transformers with two new 63 MVA power transformers. This will not only allow new consumers to connect but also provide extra space for any additional modern equipment which may have to be installed in the future.

Krasnyy treugol’nik substation is a key energy source of for the Admiralteysky District. Some of the major consumers include the Mariinsky Theatre,  Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, the metro stations and hospitals.
