400 kV upgrade for Jewar substation
An upcoming 220 kV substation, which is under construction in Jewar, will soon be upgraded to one with 400 kV capacity, officials said on 8 September.

India, Uttar Pradesh, Jewar: An upcoming 220 kV substation, which is under construction in Jewar, will soon be upgraded to one with 400 kV capacity, officials said on 8 September.
The move, according to them, has been taken due to a 300 MW power demand expected from the area.
While Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) had given land for the substation in Sector 32 of Yamuna area for free, it will now provide additional land for the upgrade. The substation with 220 kV capacity is expected to be ready by December 2021.
“An additional 20,000 m2 land has been given free-of-cost. The upgrade of the substation is necessitated due to the industrial load (192 MW) and Jewar airport load (107 MW) that is expected by 2040,”said Arun Vir Singh, CEO (YEIDA).
Puneet Gupta, superintending engineer (transmission) at UPPTL, said the upgrade is currently in a preliminary stage. “The decision for the upgrade is taken by the Transmission Works Committee at Lucknow headquarters,” said Gupta.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath had laid the foundation stone for the currently under-construction 220 kV substation at Jewar via video conferencing. The substation is being built at a cost of $120 M (Rs 77 crore). The demand for the substation was raised by Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh as the area had to source power through a long line from Aligarh and Bulandshahr leading to frequent line trips and voltage fluctuations.
The substation, which is funded by the UP government, will address the power demand of Jewar, Dankaur, Rabupura, and some urban areas of Greater Noida apart from the upcoming airport at Jewar.
