India, Haryana: Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) is planning the installation of Automatic Power Factor Controller capacitor banks on all power transformers at the 33 kV substations.

The installation is scheduled for completion by the end of March and it will cost Rs 42 crore ($ 6.8 million), writes Business Standard.

V. K. Chaudhary, Director (Operations), DHBVN said that the decision was made due to previous experience with the APFC capacitor banks which reduced reactive energy drawl and technical losses.

He said the APFC capacitor banks will be installed on all power transformers at 33 kV substations under construction in Nigam and the capacitors will be installed on all the existing transformers.

“With the installation of the capacitor banks, there will be considerable improvement in power factor which would lead to reduction in reactive energy drawls in the system”, he said.

According to Chaudhary, there are 260 substations of 33 kV level in the area covered by DHBVN and 35 substations of those are under construction.
