UNDP to help disposal of 1,100 PCB transformers by 2015
Argentina: United Nations Programme for Development (UNDP) will provide resources to Formosa and Entre Rios to strengthen the disposing process of PCB transformers, which is carried out jointly by the Ministries of Environment and Energy, the EPRE and electric cooperatives.

Argentina: United Nations Programme for Development (UNDP) will provide resources to Formosa and Entre Rios to strengthen the disposing process of PCB transformers, which is carried out jointly by the Ministries of Environment and Energy, the EPRE and electric cooperatives.
72 PCB transformers have been disposed in 2012 and last year the disposal of 1,100 PCB transformers has started in Concordia, La Paz and Crespo.
The officials claim that the disposal will be complete by 2015 and this will allow elimination of 90 % of PCB transformers in the provinces.
The general coordinator of the UNDP project related to management of PCBs, under the Secretariat of Environmental Management Office, Leticia Carabota, explained that Argentina joined the project to comply with international obligations under the Stockholm Convention.
As the reduction of PCBs is necessary for the environment and general health, the coordinator said that “one of the basic goals is the decontamination or disposal of PCB transformers found in public spaces.”
