Ireland: After damage caused by the storm that swept the country, between 60,000 and 80,000 homes and businesses will remain without power. ESB reported 3,200 individual faults to repair in Cork and Kerry alone.

ESB identified 8,000 individual faults in the system. 400 power transformers are needed as well as 1,000 wooden poles with 250km of conductors. The company has deployed all resources but “cannot guarantee” when power will be restored.

“This is once of the biggest clean-up operations I have ever experienced” said Denis Cambridge, ESB divisional manager for the south. The ESB has deployed helicopters to locate dangerous faults. According to Eircom, about 100,000 customers are currently without service.
