USA, Tennessee: Yesterday a power transformer exploded at the Industrial Park Substation on Hal Henard Road, Greeneville.

The transformer exploded just before 5 p.m. according to General Manager of Greeneville Light & Power System (GL&PS), Bill Carroll. Around 10,000 customers temporarily lost electric power following the explosion.

Firefighters arrived to the scene and reported no injuries.

The 161,000 kV substation routs electricity to six smaller substations in the west and north of the county. Carroll reported shortly after the explosion that the cause is unknown. He added that the oil tank at the site had not ruptured and the fire was contained causing no environmental damage.
