Four regional transformer workshops to be opened in Kashmir

India, Kashmir: Minister of State for Power, Vikar Rasool, announced that four regional electric workshops will be opened at Anantnag, Baramulla, Ganderbal and Pulwama to secure transformer safety stock as well as repairs of damaged transformers in North and South Kashmir.

The Minister said that Rs 6.22 Crore ($ 1 million) has been approved  for the project and Rs 1.01 Crore ($ 163,000) of the amount has been approved for procurement of the transformer safety stock for the workshops.

Vikar said that central transformer bank at Pampore has been effectively issuing replacement transformers to ease the workload on divisional workshops, writes Kashmir Times.

The Minister said that the department had proposed upgrade of 15 transformers from 6.3 MVA to 10 MVA in Sangrama constituency to ensure the new consumers can connect in the future.  

He added there is an improvement in the rate of damaged transformers with last year’s rate being 41 % while this year’s rate dropped to 25 %.
