USA, Massachusetts: A power transformer has been swallowed up by a sinkhole in Buckland, reports WGGB, causing a problem for Essential Power Services.

The company discovered the problem caused by the incident at the hydroelectric facility on Tuesday. Apparently, some oil from the power transformer leaked into the Deerfield river.

Alan Douglas, Chief Environmental Health and Safety Officer for Essential Power said that the oil is a light weight mineral oil, non-PCB containing. He believes it will evaporate and break up quickly so long lasting environmental impact in not expected.

According to the Essential Power, the sinkhole has also affected the foundation of the building. It was a warning that the site needs to be reinforced and the sinkhole prevented from getting bigger.
