United Kingdom, Somerset: Six power transformers and an auxiliary transformer have been replaced at Downside New Row Farm, Yelling Mill Lane, Shepton Mallet due to revised plan of planning permission.

Six transformers and four inverters have been replaced with three smaller power transformers and six smaller inverters. Transformers were meant  to be 2.6 m high, 6.2 m long and 2.5 m wide but will now be 1.9 m high, 2.5 m long and 1.6 m high.

According to the plan, more smaller solar panels will be installed than initially planned but the revised plan will enable an increase in capacity from 3.93 MW to 4.5 MW, which means more power will be absorbed.

Matthew Williams, the planning manager said: “The proposal, because of its appearance and extent, would result in localised harm to the character and appearance of the area and to the visual amenity of some local residents. This harm would be outweighed by the significant public benefits of the proposal resulting from the generation of renewable energy.”
