Nigeria, Osogbo: Yesterday the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) initiated a full-scale investigation on the cause of the fire that consumed the 150 MVA, 330/132/33 kV power transformer.

Many parts of the capital have been coping with electricity rationing as a result of the fire but TCN engineers have been sent to repair the damage. TCN in Abuja stated that the fire was started with an explosive heard from the transformer Friday. It was successfully extinguished on the same day.

According to the company, one of the feeders was diverted to Ganmo substation while the remaining three are fed from the second 150 MVA power transformer that was not affected by the fire incident. The affected areas should now experience minimal outages while the transformer which has been commissioned in March 2010, is being repaired. The full investigation into the incident has been initiated.
