New transformer to supply Austria with energy from Burgenland
Austria, Zurndorf : A 300-tonne 380 kV transformer has been delivered to the substation Zurndorf . The transformer, which is the last of the three delivered 380 kV transformers, will be used to feed the Burgenland wind power to the national grid.

Austria, Zurndorf: A 300-tonne 380 kV transformer has been delivered to the substation Zurndorf. The transformer, which is the last of the three delivered 380 kV transformers, will be used to feed the Burgenland wind power to the national grid.
By 2015, 1,000 MW of wind power should be installed in Burgenland which is equivalent to the output of five Danube power plants. In order to bring the electricity generated in the Burgenland state to the Austrian network, the Austrian Power Grid AG (APG) will have jointly invested with the BEWAG NETZ around € 320 million (approx. $ 444 million) by 2015.
The APG invests in the reinforcement of its network over Austria will be around € 2.6 billion (approx. $ 3.6 billion) by 2023. The investments in reinforcement of the network are necessary to enable the energy transition towards renewable energy.
“The core of the APG grid concept and hence an essential foundation for the integration of renewable energy in Austria is the 380 kV safety ring we want to soon close with the construction of the Salzburg line in the west.” said APG ‘s Gerhard Christiner.
“The safety ring will allow us to store the renewable energy produced but not consumed in the region. Austria may be able to bring its potential to generate electricity from renewable energy sources actually connected to the grid.”
