Alstom wins contract from PowerGrid to replace HVDC converter transformers

India, Maharashtra: Alstom T&D India have won a INR 182 crore ($ 30.5 million) contract from the state-run PowerGrid Corporation to supply HVDC converter transformers.

India, Maharashtra: Alstom T&D India have won a INR 182 crore ($ 30.5 million) contract from the state-run PowerGrid Corporation to supply HVDC converter transformers.

According to the contract, Alstom’s HVDC converter transformers will replace old transformers at the 1,000 MW Bhadrawati station which interconnects and moves surplus power from West India to South India. 

The contract includes designing, engineering, manufacturing, refurbishing and commissioning of HVDC converter transformers, reports Business Standard.

The new transformers will be manufactured at Alstom’s facilities in Vadodara, India, and Stafford, UK.
