Germany, Lübeck: A new Alstom power transformer was transported last night to the old part of Lübeck situated on an island. The transformer will replace the predecessor from the 1960s.

The new power transformer is significantly smaller and lighter than the old one, reports LN Online. It weighs only 66 tonnes. On heavy duty truck, it was delivered at 12.30 a.m. to the premises in Fünfhausen .

“We decided for a timely change before we have to start making repairs.” says Michael Naffin, who is responsible for the utility company construction and repair.

The Alstom transformer was produced with modern technology, having lower weight and smaller dimensions than its predecessor. “Also, there is less loss in the conversion than before.” added Naffin. It would reduce by one third – equivalent to the annual consumption of about 60 households.

The cost for the power transformer, including supply and installation amounted up to about € 550,000 ($ 756,635).
