Equipment failure at Singapore substation causes power outage

Electricity and gas supply company SP Group confirmed that equipment failure at the substation serving Carlton Hotel in Singapore led to an electricity flashover which caused the fire.

The equipment failure also caused a power outage in several parts of central Singapore.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that the fire was contained within a switch room and about 1,000 people were evacuated from the building.

The fire was put out using extinguishers, and there were no reported injuries, SCDF added.
