Newfoundland Power transformer removed from substation

Canada, Torbay: Newfoundland Power stated it will cost at least $ 350,000 to repair the power transformer, which was intentionally shot at earlier this month, and clean up the oil spill which was a result of the attack.
A gunshot-damaged power transformer was lifted by crane and loaded on the transport truck at Newfoundland Power’s Pulpit Rock substation while the police are investigating the incident.
According to Newfoundland Power, the transformer was transported to its maintenance and repair facility. After the repairs the transformer will be back in operation, reports The Telegram. The removal of the transformer will allow the company to remove the concrete foundation pad it sits on and be able to clean up the site.
As a result of the incident, an estimated 8,000 litres of oil was spilled when the transformer was shot at and 5,000 Newfoundland Power customers were left without power in the Torbay, Flatrock and Pouch Cove areas.
“Newfoundland Power remains highly concerned that a deliberate decision to shoot at electrical equipment was taken without any regard for the consequences.” the company said. “We cannot underscore enough the serious safety and environmental risks associated with an incident of this nature.”
