The Philippines, Batangas province: The 1,000 MW Santa Rita natural gas power plant has lost a quarter of its capacity after one of the transformers sustained damage.

According to First Gen, the repair of the transformer could last until the fourth quarter of the year. The results of internal inspections and testing conducted by the original equipment manufacturer had confirmed damage to the internal components of Unit 40 transformer, which has a 250 MW nominal capacity out of the 1,000 MW Santa Rita plant.

“We are currently evaluating repair measures as well as a replacement option for the said transformer, either of which can be completed by the fourth quarter of this year.” the company said. First Gas said as an option, it might use a spare transformer already in production, but this could also take several months.

“Should it be required for Unit 40, this spare transformer can be installed and commissioned by November 2014. We are in discussions with the supplier to expedite the manufacturing and delivery of this spare transformer.” the company added.
